Round 1: Josh Miller on behalf of Aveline from Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation While not specifically a PlayStation exclusive franchise, Assassins Creed did release an (at the time) exclusive game to the PlayStation Vita. This was Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation. Not only was this an exclusive, but also featured the first female assassin and person of African descent in the series. It is for these reasons that she is a strong candidate to be a fighter in a next PlayStation All-Stars game. In terms of character design, Aveline has a great look. Like other assassins in the series, the outfit is fantastic and has the option for different colors or styles based on other iterations. This allows for multiple alternate designs to be chosen from whether it’s available from the start or unlocked throughout playing. When it comes to fighting, Aveline has plenty at her disposal due to her being an assassin. Weapons such as swords, tomahawks and her hidden blade allows for more personal up close melee style action. For some distance damage she could use throwing knives, her blowpipe or even her pistol. The possibilities allow for a balanced method of short to long range attacks making her an ample fighter. When it comes to special attacks to clear the board, this is where people with more creativity than I would shine. I think the first special could have a drop assassination of some sort, so perhaps she scurries offscreen or leaps high into the air as the player has to direct her to land on an opposing character for an instant execution. The second special could cause the other fighters to have their screens somewhat scrambled ala the animus giving Aveline a chance to either knock them off the stage or eliminate them completely. The third special could pull a Mega Man like attack from Smash Bros. and have a splash screen of other assassins in the series join Aveline and attack at once. Whatever the decisions, Aveline has enough options to be a threat on the battlefield of a PlayStation All-Stars sequel. Her being a black female would be an important inclusion as well for diversity sake while also featuring a major franchise linked directly to a special place on PlayStation hardware. It is for these reasons that Aveline deserves to be recognized in a character slot in this ultimate roster showdown. Round 2: Emmett Watkins Jr on behalf of Cayde-6 from Destiny Besides Killzone Shadow Fall at the start of the generation, PlayStation hasn’t put much of a focus on multiplayer shooters for their fourth home console. Rather than beg Guerilla to keep making Killzone, or Insomniac to keep making Resistance, they’ve shifted their focus in that genre to a number of partnerships with 3rd party titles. By backing games like Destiny, they’ve stayed relevant in the space, and by doing so, have also associated the PlayStation brand with one of Activision’s most beloved characters: Cayde-6. Cayde-6 has quickly become one of the most recognizable faces in Destiny thanks to Nathan Fillion’s charming and hilarious performance. And even after his, um, fate in the Forsaken DLC, he’s still the most recognizable personality in the franchise and would make for a perfect addition to the PlayStation All-Stars roster. Much like Emmett in the original All-Stars, Cayde could be a ranged based character and utilize his iconic pistol in combat. He could also utilize some of the various SMGs, DMRs, and assault rifles as standard attacks using different button inputs. Sure, a traditional knife attack would be there, but his niche would be almost purely with ranged combat of multiple types. As for his supers, those could introduce power weapons so that various rocket launchers, shotguns, grenade launchers, and sniper rifles can make it in the game. His level one could be a single sniper shot that kills anyone in its path. His level 2 could be an instant-kill grenade launcher with about 3 extra rounds, each with the splash damage and grenade physics and timing one would expect. His level 3 could incorporate his Golden Gun super, and allow him to wield explosive rounds for a limited time. So, that’s all I got. I truly think Cayde-6 would be right at home in the roster, and, especially since both Colonel Radec and Emmett Graves were wiped from the roster, I feel that he’d fill the lack of intergalactic gunslingers the line up has right now. Plus, who doesn’t love Nathan Fillion? Round 3: Fight! Who’s you backing in this match, the 6th of the Cayde or the chick with a blade?
