Far Cry 6

I have said it on the site many times, but I am immensely excited for Far Cry 6. Having recently gone back and beaten Far Cry 5, my psyche is yearning for another emotional rollercoaster full of explosions and treachery and climbable towers. Sadly, Far Cry 6 was delayed back in February, but this week we got gameplay reveal from Ubisoft and it did not disappoint.

I’ll start by saying Giancarlo Esposito is an absolute king, and he is the perfect Far Cry villain. This is not to say the other villains have been bad – quite the contrary – but when you imagine Far Cry villainy, you picture someone who is simultaneously intimidating and empathetic, which is kind of Esposito’s thing; he’s a master of condescending smiles and an insanely stern gaze. I love the guy, and I can’t wait to see what he brings to this game. Not to mention, the beautiful cutscenes make it look like we’re just watching a movie with him in it.

The story of Far Cry 6 sounds like the typical plot but cranked up a notch. The team at Ubisoft Toronto is really trying to make the “guerrilla fantasy” feel as realistic as possible. As you and your crew take on treasonous armies, you will ride horses, boats, helicopters, and burn everything to the ground along the way. Taking the reins of a young female protagonist, you will slowly but surely have your revenge on the island nation that took everything from you.

The game looks like dumb fun, the way Far Cry should be. The customization options are endless, the weapons sound tight, there’s a freaking alligator in a t-shirt! I love it; I really love it all. From jet packs to using CDs and fireworks as weapons, there is something here for everyone. Also, props to Ubisoft for finally letting us play as a woman – a woman of color, even – and just putting a lot of passion into this game and its culture. My one concern is that the gameplay graphics look a bit muddy, but hey, it’s still early. Far Cry 6 will be out on October 7, if we’re lucky, and yes, that wheelie wiener dog will be there, too.

Thanks for reading this huge VGU Reacts. I hope it got you excited for the year ahead! Stay tuned to VGU for all E3 coverage in the coming months!
