Last year during the Pandemic or as I refer to it, the Year From Hell, E3 was postponed. In its place, we got Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest as well as a smorgasbord of independent shows like the Kinda Funny Games Showcase, the Devolver Digital Showcase, and more. While we will most likely still be getting that again this year it was shown that E3 wasn’t really necessary in regards to indie games and AAA games and all the games that fall in-between. Like last year, everything will be digital in terms of what will be presented and how things will be presented. So, all of us here at VGUtv wanted to talk about our predictions for what we want to see at E3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Allan Muir – EiC\/Admin\/Star Wars Stan<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Information on the rumored Mandalorian game<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you have heard me on an episode of Player’s Club or WiN you will know that I am a Star Wars mega-fan and have been since the age of 5 when I first saw The Phantom Menace in 1999. I have played seemingly every Star Wars game going back to 2001. But enough of that. According to a now-deleted tweet from a co-founder of Xbox Era \u201cYou\u2019ll notice…there\u2019s a Mandalorian Funko on Phil\u2019s shelf. Yes. Someone is making a Mandalorian game. Not sure who yet.\u201d This was after the GamesBeat Summit 2021 video where Xbox head Phil Spencer, who is notorious for having easter eggs in his videos for things that have yet to be revealed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"\/<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

While I am not sure which developer in the Xbox Family would be making this game I want to put my eggs in the baskets of either Obsidian, inXile, or a ZeniMax developer. While Obsidian can be taken off the table as they have a ton of games in the works currently, there is an unannounced game<\/a> they are working on. Meanwhile, inXile is working on a first-person RPG<\/a> which could very well be said Mandalorian game. To me, ZeniMax is the longshot as their studios are busy with other projects such as Fallout 76<\/em>, Starfield<\/em>, DeathLoop<\/em>, and so on and so forth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of now everything is in the hands of the Maker. With the Xbox and Bethesda showcase happening on June 13th<\/a> so only time will tell from now on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Injustice 3 is Announced with a Trailer, Spring 2022 Release<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the bankruptcy of Midway Games in 2009, and its acquisition by Warner Brothers the same year; Netherrealm Studios have released a new game in April\/May every other year since 2011. Like most things though, COVID threw a wrench in things in 2020. So my expectation for E3? We see their belated next game, expected to also release in April or May 2022 and it follows the same pattern of title switch off…and Injustice 3<\/em> is announced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, I hesitated to put Injustice 3<\/em> thinking it was possible it could be revealed at DC Fandome in October. However, Ed Boon likes to take his time feeding out information for his games. So I’m going out on a limb and we see the initial trailer during E3. Maybe a few characters and hinting of the story (say…Nekron or The Batman Who Laughs will be the big bad) and a Spring 2022 release date. I speculate it will eventually be dropped in April or May, but that will be one thing saved for DC Fandome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team at Netherrealm can’t possibly be twiddling their thumbs. They always have something in the works and it’s well past time for their next game to be revealed. Based on their track record though, I think the safe bet would be Injustice 3<\/em> with a sprinkling of information each month until its release day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Amsterdam 1666 is Brought Back from the Dead<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year around E3, I bust out my list of things I hope to see. Scratch that, things I’ve hoped<\/em> to see for many<\/em> years now. In no apparent order, they include A new Arkham game. A new Syphon Filter. Whatever happened to Wild<\/em>? What if they brought back Agent<\/em>? Deep Down<\/em>? Silent Hills<\/em>? Saints Row 5<\/em>? Dead Island 2<\/em>… again?!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My mind never stops racing, and because of this, I have too many ideas. So while I sit here thinking about my biggest E3 wish, I can’t help but think of the more obvious ones. I’m pretty sure we’ll get a release date for 12 Minutes. I’d even put money on a release date for The Wolf Among Us Season 2. Hell, I’d even bet Josh that he’s right about Injustice 3. There are just so many games that could be real or are right around the corner, and we are on the cusp of having our whole lives changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But you know what would blow my mind? A true reveal of Amsterdam 1666<\/em>. Yeah, I said it. Y’all remember Amsterdam<\/em>? It was set to be the next big game by original Assassin’s Creed<\/em> director Patrice Desilets; a horror game about the devil set in ye olden days. But then THQ had to go under, and after quite a large battle involving lots of money – and probably a lawsuit somewhere – Desilets got the rights to his baby back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now it’s supposedly in development at Panache Digital, where a small team of 35 people made 2019’s Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey<\/em>, and they fully intend to bring Amsterdam 1666<\/em> back to life. Sadly it won’t have the AAA budget of THQ or Ubisoft behind it, but I still believe in the passion Desilets shows for this title. I think it could be something magical and terrifying, and I would love to see what dreams that man holds within his creative mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Saints Row V is Finally Revealed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A long, long time ago, way back in 2020, the official Saints Row Twitter account confirmed<\/a>, finally, that a new game in the franchise was in development. Now, we did just get a remaster of Saints Row 3 last year, and a next-gen upgrade for it just released as well. But the last standalone entry in the series, Gat Outta Hell, came out all the way back in 2015, and the last mainline entry came out 2 years before that. It’s effectively been an entire console generation since we’ve had a numbered Saints Row game and considering Grand Theft Auto has been hibernating a well, the genre of open-world crime games has been bare the last few years. So, I think the timing is perfect to reveal a brand new Saints Row game upon the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the game seemingly having been worked on for several years now, its reveal is imminent, so expecting it to be revealed this year isn’t much of a stretch. However, a bigger question would be what the game actually is. After the jump-the-shark moment that was my beloved Saints Row IV, it seemed like Volition had no way to make the series more ridiculous. Because of this, there was a rumor that the next game would be more of a sequel to Saints Row The Third, with the fourth game being chalked up as an in-universe TV show. This rumor was shot down by publisher Deep Silver, but I can’t help be find a more grounded title more appealing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite how much I love Saints Row IV, my second favorite in the series is Saints Row 2. Its main storyline was grounded and had plenty of brutal and emotional moments. But its wacky side characters and world-injected the more over-the-top humor that the series would later be defined by. Striking that balance once again might be the perfect thing to get those turned off by the goofiness of later games back into the series. And for those like me who are content with the ridiculousness of the last game, it’d be a refreshing change of pace. Here’s hoping they make the necessary changes and come out with the next entry sooner rather than later. Because with GTA 6 trending on Twitter every other month, I’m sure we’d all gladly eat up a new modern open-world crime game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
