As of the time of the writing, Gotham Knights<\/em> is expected to release in October. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League<\/em> has a 2023 release window. Wonder Woman<\/em> is…sometime in the future. As a whole, DC Comics have done a pretty great job on the video game front after series like Injustice<\/em> and the Arkham<\/em> games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But ya know…sometimes you just want more. As a DC Comics fan, I (Josh Miller) can’t get enough. I even wrote about a Superman game I would love to see on this very site<\/a>. So us here at VGU.tv decided to write about some games we wouldn’t mind seeing. And to get the ball rolling, I’ll start with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Josh Miller – The Hypertime Host with the Most<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hellblazer\/Constantine – Developed by Remedy<\/em> Entertainment<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n

As Remedy has proven with their past releases, they don’t mind getting weird on the narrative front. If they were to have a chance with a DC Comics property, Constantine would be a perfect character for them. Not only would he work well in the third-person action game genre, but the setting is right up their alley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those unfamiliar with Constantine or the Hellblazer<\/em> series; there is a heavy focus on supernatural stuff. Things like demons, ghosts, magic, and more are all things that Constantine has to deal with. Mix this in with his warlock and detective character while also being smart and snarky; he is an interesting protagonist as it is. But the situations he finds himself in and the people he interacts with, many who find him frustrating but irreplaceable, are ripe with possibilities. All of this is something Remedy can excel at. They have proven that they can be creative and weird and Constantine is a perfect character for them to tackle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do I see it ever happening? Probably not. However, he is known well enough (thanks to the Keanu Reeves movie and the DC animated films) that Constantine does have some name recognition. His world is also fascinating along with the character itself, leaving me to believe that a Remedy developed Constantine\/Hellblazer<\/em> would be a great DC Comics game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Allan Muir – EiC\/Admin\/JSA Superfan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Society of America – Developed by Telltale Games<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n

If there is one thing that can be said of me, it’s that I am a huge fan of the Justice Society. The golden age of comics saw DC’s B and C-tiered heroes form a team that would be more of a family than a job when compared to the Justice League. The team would consist of characters such as Jay Garrick, Alan Scott, Ted Grant, Wesley Dodds, and more. More recently the JSA has been featured prominently on the CW Series Stargirl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While there are probably other developers that could make a JSA game in the style of Marvel Ultimate Alliance<\/em>, DC’s track record with those type of games aren’t exactly the best. Take Justice League: Legends<\/em> or Young Justice: Legacy<\/em> for instance. That’s why in my heart of hearts I’d want a developer like Telltale Games to tell a different type of JSA story. There are plenty of storylines to choose from such as the infamous “Golden Age” story which is not worth spoiling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Batman: The Telltale Series<\/em> wasn’t a commercial success its sequel was promising. In fact, it was proof that Telltale was evolving and could have recovered from the rut they were in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Graydon Webb – The Contrarian American\/Image Enthusiast<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

DC Villain Origins – Developed by Respawn Entertainment<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n

I must preface this with a confession: I’m really not much of a DC Comics fan. Hell, I’m not much of a superhero comic-reader at all! Aside from Invincible <\/em>for supes and a small bit of Fables <\/em>for DC, I suppose what little knowledge I have is mostly due to the lackluster movies, the Arkham games, and… Six Flags?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But I digress. I still know quite a bit about DC’s cast of characters and being someone who’s rather behind on 80-something years of comics, I would love to see a video game revolving around DC villains’ origin stories. My mind immediately went to the Red Hood segments of Arkham Origins<\/em>. They not only gave us a new character to play as, but the way they told a story through shifting backgrounds and thorough narration helped me understand more about this character than ever before!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know that this game couldn’t really be as open world as the typical Arkham fare – unless it was designed as smaller vignettes, allowing the player to explore, say, one district of the city as each villain to test their powers and uncover more secrets. The game wouldn’t have to include too many villains, either. It could follow the big names like Joker, Lex Luthor, and Darskseid, or it could showcase smaller names; personally, I’d love to see more about Polka-Dot Man and Captain Cold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I just feel this concept is begging to be explored. Especially if someone like Respawn worked on it. Can you imagine? A massive semi-open world exploration game about the backstories of popular comic characters, told through an expertly crafted narrative that not only delivers on over-the-top action, but also tugs at the emotional heartstrings. DC Villain Origins<\/em> would be an instant hit, and I would finally know how the Joker got those scars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Those are our thoughts on DC Comics games we would love to see in the future. Any games you all would be willing to play if they came to fruition?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
