Borderlands – “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” (by Cage the Elephant)

The original Borderlands will forever be synonymous with Cage the Elephant’s “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked”. After a lackluster response to the original trailer for Borderlands, Gearbox went back and shook things up. Not only did they change the look of the game, but they made one of the most memorable trailers for one. That is largely in part to the musical choice.

Many people, myself included, suddenly discovered this new band. While I couldn’t connect with the rest of their discography, that song is still one I love to hear from time to time. One that resonated so much with people that they still loved seeing it when it played during the intro scene.

It’s clear that Gearbox tried to replicate that magic in the trailers for Borderlands 2 and Borderlands 3, but those didn’t quite hit the same. There is no denying the impact the song left on that trailer, and that’s why it’s one of my favorites.
