Josh Miller – Lucca’s Mom (Chrono Trigger)

When Allan brought this up as the next topic to discussed, plenty of examples crossed my mind. In fact, at least one of them will be discussed by another one here. So I tried to go a little further back and pick a game I didn’t think one of my friends here would pick because I don’t think they’ve played it: Chrono Trigger.

Anyone who has played the game is aware of all the side quests you can get lost in including the numerous endings to experience. One quest in particular stands out to me and that involves Lucca’s mom. In the game, Lucca’s mom is involved in an accident that results in her legs being crushed. But, because this is a time travel game, the player has a chance to go back in time and stop it.

Keyword there is “chance”. Even if you choose to go down that side quest, it is still possible to fail it. It’s a stressful and heartwrenching moment to save the mother of this character you love. It also adds another wrinkle as to why the character turned out the way she did and done in a way to appreciate her more. To make the quest even better, you get something at the end that leads to another wonderful quest and helps remind people why Chrono Trigger is one of the greatest games of all time.
