A whole new Pokemon world we live in.

Prior to the trailer going live this morning at 9 AM eastern, it was announced that Pokemon game director Junichi Masuda would be leaving GameFreak and moving over to The Pokemon Company. This meant that he’d be trading one hat for a completely different but albeit a similar one. Rather than managing the games itself, he’d be managing and protecting Pokemon as a brand.

Recapping The Second Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Trailer

The trailer begins with the player characters of Scarlet and Violet as they run past what I am going out on a limb to guess are revamped Pokemon Centers that are more like Pokemon Kiosks than anything else. The last time there was an initial change to the Pokemon Centers was in the X & Y games where the Poke Mart and Poke Centers were fused together.

We then meet Professor Sada and Turo respectively who the latter looks like Elder Maxson from Fallout 4. Just needed to vent that into the open. We then see the starters for the game, Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly. We are then introduced to three of the new regional Pokemon for these two games, Pawmi; who I can best describe as an electric type that is either a bear or a dog? Next is Lechonk who has already taken the internet by storm with memes. The third is Smoliv which looks like the next step in the evolutionary path for Budew but isn’t for obvious reasons. Also, no real importance in the grand scheme of things, but I really enjoyed seeing the regional variant they have for Chewtle in this game.

We then get the return of the “The Power of Science is amazing” guy who traditionally explains the big technological leap and is saying that you and up to three other trainers can meet up and explore the environment. I frankly can’t believe GameFreak would stealth drop a 4-player Co-Op mode. This is a feature I never thought would be in a Pokemon game. When talking to fellow Pokemon fan Josh Miller he brought up a good point of how the game could potentially hit frame rate issues once you and your group load into the world. Considering how Sword and Shield’s respective FPS’ would dip into single-digit frame rate levels there could be a reason for caution. We then see various footage of the different environments along with a new trade animation that I honestly like more than the previous games.

Around the 2-minute mark, the game goes from the world to show off the legendary Pokemon for each game. One is a futuristic dragon type and the other is a retro-looking dragon type. We then get a release date of November 18th.

Pokemon Scarlet/Violet Official Website Information

The official website for Scarlet and Violet gave us the names for the two legendary Pokemon as well with the ancient-looking one being “Koraidon” and the futuristic one being “Miraidon”. According to the Scarlet and Violet website, the Dragons won’t be the only thing exclusive to the respective version as Scarlet will have Professor Sada while Violet will have Professor Turo.

The character we meet at the beginning of the trailer is Nemona who is a friend of the player character. With all that said, the three Pokemon shown off during the trailer, are part of Nemona’s party so that makes sense. The games have a worldwide release date of Friday, November 18th. This is great for a number of reasons, the biggest being I can push this for Game of the Year since Starfield got delayed!
