Josh Miller – The Family Man and Daniel Mullins Stan
The Mitchells vs. The Machines

I rarely have time for movies anymore. When given a chance in my free time, I usually devote it to games or podcasts. Once in a while though, the family gets together and we decide to watch a movie. Fortunately, instead of watching one we already knew we liked, we took a chance with The Mitchells Vs. The Machines. A wonderful flick not just for the kids, but the family as a whole.
The Mitchells Vs The Machines reminds me so much of The Goofy Movie. A kid trying to break free but an overly attached father refusing to let go. Thus, a road trip is born! If the family frustrations weren’t enough for the characters, an apocalypse brought about by robots certainly doesn’t help. The movie is cute, funny, amazing animation, great voice acting, and wonderful character work as well. Each character has a moment to shine with defining traits about them, and in many ways, has qualities that relates to everyone.
The thing about The Goofy Movie was, I saw that as a kid. My perspective for that scenario has now changed. Whereas I wanted to feel like Max and find myself away from my folks, now….I am the folks. I understand the need to keep your family close knowing what lies ahead, the responsibilities necessary, and the sacrifices having been made (and continue to be made). The Mitchells Vs. The Machines does a great job of showcasing all of that.
The few faults I found with the movie weren’t enough to detract from how much I loved it. I’ve thought about watching it again just for myself, not even with the family, and that doesn’t happen often. The Mitchells Vs. The Machines may be one of the few movies I’ve seen this year, but I’m confident enough to say it was one of the most enjoyable films of the year too. It’s just a lovely movie all around, and I hope anyone that hasn’t watched it yet gives it a view.
