Welcome back to another week of our 24 of ’24 series! Here, the VGU editors get a chance to showcase six of their most anticipated events of the year. This time around, it’s Graydon’s turn! So, let’s dive in and see what he’s excited about in 2024.

Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden
At the absolute top of my list is a video game I’ve been looking forward to since it was announced. Banishers is a third-person action title with an emotional story about a pair of ghost hunters – one of whom becomes a ghost herself – which shifts the gameplay mechanics and drives the narrative toward redemption and discovery. Every time I see a trailer for this game, I can’t believe what I’m watching onscreen. Something about this environment and these characters just pulls me in with such vigor, and I want to know everything there is to know about it all. The icing on the cake is it’s being made by Don’t Nod, the dreamers behind Life is Strange and more! Thankfully I won’t have to wait long, as Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden finally arrives on February 13!
God, I’m so happy it’s not a soulslike.

Kung Fu Panda 4
If you’re not the least bit excited for Kung Fu Panda 4, I don’t know what to tell ya. I’d bet money it’ll show up on another one of the guys’ lists. Now I’ll be honest, I fell off the DreamWorks bandwagon way too early, and never stuck around for the Kung Fu Panda sequels or even the How to Train Your Dragon films. But I’ve made up for my sins in recent years! There’s a lot of heart, comedy, and excellently choreographed action in these movies. Even after seeing the trailer for KFP4, I simply had to trust that it will turn out good – no matter how “meh” it currently seems – just because it’s a Kung Fu Panda movie! They always end up spectacular, and I need to see where this one goes.

OK Go’s Next Album
This could be a big year for my favorite bands. We’re nearly due for a new Bastille album, Fitz and the Tantrums, OK Go… Then again, it could be quiet as well, considering we got new music last year from big names like Hozier, Gorillaz, OneRepublic, OK Go… Wait, what? These guys will go dormant for years and then drop one song, say “new album coming soon!” and vanish again. It’s getting old guys, but I’ll never stop driving this hype train. 2023’s new song, “This,” was awesome, and as someone who never experienced an OK Go album at launch (I wasn’t a huge fan yet back in 2013!), my fingers are crossed that this is my year (and theirs) to get amped for a new album release!

The Umbrella Academy‘s Final Season
There’s a lot of great television these days, surprisingly. Of course, the strikes last year didn’t help them move along very well, but 2024 still promises new fun in the form of House of the Dragon, Echo, and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, to name a few. But my strongest sights are set on The Umbrella Academy, which will drop its fourth and final season this year. It’s been a long time coming since my sister first introduced me to this awesome series. From murder mystery to time travel to bizarro universes, we’ve been all over the science-fiction spectrum, and it’s time to finally put this freaky family to bed. I’m on the edge of my seat; how the hell can they wrap this up?

Sunset Boulevard Revival
I’m happy I waited ’til the last minute to write this piece! I was initially going to talk about Dave Malloy’s Three Houses, a new off-Broadway play from the visionary genius behind Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. While I still cannot wait for that production, the recent Broadway-breaking news takes the cake: Sunset Boulevard is coming back to Broadway, straight from the West End, complete with the four lead cast members! This type of move is rather unprecedented, to see a show transfer across the pond completely intact. As someone who holds Sunset near the top of their favorites list – and has wanted to see Nicole Scherzinger onstage in a musical for years now – I couldn’t be more excited. New York, here I come!

Nosferatu
I wanted to include a film on this list, so I’m here to talk to you about Madame Web.
Just kidding, I meant Kraven the Hunter.
I mean Venom 3.
Sony, please slow down with these stupid things!
Anyway, I was looking at the list of movies and I thought “Argylle does look funny, but there’s something I want even more…” How about a revised adaptation of the scariest vampire ever put to screen, made by the genius filmmaker behind The Lighthouse, and starring some of Hollywood’s best character actors? Nosferatu sounds like a real treat, doesn’t it? Bill Skarsgård, Willem Defoe, Aaron Taylor-Johnson again…? We can’t get rid of this guy! Oh well, it’ll be awesome, I’m sure. The promo images have me super excited already. Shame we have to wait until Christmas, though.
So that’s what I’m looking forward to this year! Of course, top of my list is really getting to spend another year here at VGU. We have some awesome content in store in 2024, so please stay tuned and follow us on all our social media so you never miss out! Also, check out Josh’s list from last week if you haven’t already.
Oh, and don’t forget to come back next week for a look at Allan’s six most anticipated things!
