The Square-Enix Showcase just wrapped and the first game shown off was Guardians of the Galaxy, NOT to be confused by Guardians of The Galaxy: A Telltale Series. Like the two Spider-Man games by Insomniac, this game will be entirely single-player based. I think they took a look at how Avengers was received even though the single-player campaign was not problematic. The game is developed by Eidos Montreal which was previously known for the Deus Ex franchise.

The game has a Telltale esque feeling to me where you can make choices that affect how the other team members feel about you. Examples were taking sides in a verbal fight between Rocket and Gamora, choosing who to have sold for a theft job, and saying yes or no to Rocket getting thrown across a long distance.

When comparing it to Avengers, Spider-Man, and Miles Morales it seems to be more of a Miles Morales in the sense that the game will have you solely in the boots of Peter Quill. There are what seems to be tactic options during battles where you can have one of your four teammates do a special attack that you yourself can add to and inflict more damage.

The developers seem to be infusing a more comedic element into the game when compared to Avengers which took itself very seriously. As you can see in the image above there are… differences between the way the characters look in the comics and this game. But this is one of those things where it’s so crazy it might just work!

Dan Abnett, who along with former writing partner Andy Lanning helped shape what the current Marvel cosmic stuff looks like, was interviewed as well. Senior Producer Olivier Proulx said that this is Eidos Montreal’s reinterpretation of the iconic Marvel characters. Senior Creative Director Jean-Francois Dugas went on to say that: “no matter what phase of the game you are in, the Guardians are constantly around you, and will challenge you and make decisions on their own.” The choices made will vary, but they do matter, and when it comes to how long the Guardians have been together for under a year, and create a problem that escalates in danger as the game goes on which will threaten the galaxy.

Guardians of the Galaxy releases on October 26th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

You can pre-order the game if you really want to, and click here if you want to read Graydon’s hype for the first four reveals of E3 season.
